Cook Island | Open Water - Beginner to Advanced Sites

Cook Island is much more than a dive site. The location is a protected marine park that offers numerous profiles from the most relaxing drift style to the more challenging swim throughs.

The two distinct sides of the island offer multiple moorings, making it highly adaptable to meet challenging conditions and provide immense diversity.

Specific sites around the island include;

  • North Wall
  • Turtle Nursery
  • Mary's Rock
  • Fido's Reef
  • Coral Gardens (Southside Wall)
  • Bullseye Alley

Nine Mile Reef | Advanced Site

Four and a half miles off the Tweed Coast this site is on the edge of a 'marine highway'. Seasonally it is home to grey nurse sharks in the cooler months and zebra (leopard) sharks in the summer. Whales frequently passing, along with a huge population of rays (eagle, cow nose and smooth). Ancient loggerhead and green turtles cousins abound, and the fish life is plentiful with large pelagic's often present.

Topography ranges from reef to reef with the top in 16 metres to sandy gutters (18-20 metres), rocky gutters (16-22 metres) and the plunging open side cliffs (28 metres).

Other advanced sites include (subject to conditions);

  •   Kingscliff Pinnacles (32 metres)
  •  Mary's Rock (18 metres)
  • Boulders (35 metres)
  • Alberta Wreck (12 metres)
